Johnston's own words tell the story well. After she won at Goodwood — a race the betting market didn't fancy her for — he described her victory as giving the team "the right to be more audacious." She looked beaten with 150 yards to run, and then simply refused to lose, finding more when her rival arrived alongside. That kind of grit is exactly what separates a decent horse from a potentially serious one. The team duly aimed her at the 1,000 Guineas, one of the most prestigious races in Britain, and though the fast ground at Newmarket found her out — Johnston felt it was simply too quick for a big, upright horse like her — it tells you everything about how highly she is regarded that she was there at all.
Her comeback run at Newcastle in April 2026 was exactly what a team needs before a major overseas assignment. Johnston was candid that those earlier Group-level outings may have come "a little soon," but winning at Newcastle settled any nerves and confirmed she had trained on well as a three-year-old. She has now won 2 of her last 6 races, with the recent Newmarket run a clear ground-related exception rather than a loss of form. The German Guineas is next on the agenda, and Johnston believes the conditions there — almost certainly on softer, wetter ground than Newmarket — will suit her far better. Given she has already shown she can win at the top end of British racing and dig deep when it matters, that is not wishful thinking. It is a plan built on evidence.
