Now seven years old, The Glen Rovers has reinvented himself entirely. He has won 5 races from 17, which works out at roughly 1 in every 3 — a genuinely solid return, and one that has been built almost entirely in the last year or so. His trainer L Wadham, based in Newmarket, described the transformation as "amazing", and pointed out that the horse is bred to be good. It just took time, patience from his owners, and a bigger, stronger frame to make it happen. The yard has sent out 18 winners this season alone, so this is a stable in form — and The Glen Rovers has been one of the reasons why.
The number that jumps out is his record at Kempton Park: 3 wins from 7 races there. That means he has won at that track almost as often as he has lost, which is extraordinary for any horse. Winning 3 from 7 at a single venue is not a fluke — it suggests the track genuinely suits the way he moves and races. His jockey Sean D Bowen, who partners him more than anyone else, described him travelling "lovely" and picking up well late in the race — the kind of horse who saves his best for the finish rather than burning out in front.
Both of his most recent wins have come in Class 2 races, which sit near the very top of the British racing ladder. Winning at that level once is an achievement; doing it twice in quick succession suggests he belongs there. His last victory came at Lingfield Park in February 2025, and the six-race sequence that surrounds it tells its own story: after a run of mid-pack finishes, he suddenly put everything together. Part-owner Connor Ryan said after his first win that the team showed up that day with "plenty of confidence" — which tends to mean something when it comes from the people who know the horse best.
He raced just one day ago, so whatever comes next is close. A horse who wins 2 from every 4 races on normal ground, dominates one track, and has a trainer talking about him in glowing terms heading into spring is worth paying attention to.
