The Coffee Pod

Both victories arrived at York, where The Coffee Pod is genuinely dangerous. In five races at that track, it has won twice — a record that stands out sharply against its overall form. The first win came on 10 September 2023 in a top-level Class 2 race, a significant day for any horse. The second followed almost a year later on 12 July 2024, but since then nothing. The Coffee Pod hasn't won in its last six races, despite being out as recently as yesterday. The horse is clearly still racing, still trying, but has slipped into that territory where wins feel like distant memories.

In Class 4 races — where it usually runs — The Coffee Pod has managed just one win from 13 attempts, an 8% success rate that confirms it is barely competitive at its regular level. Sean Levey, its most frequent pilot, has ridden it five times without a victory. The team training at Lambourn has sent out 20 winners this season, but The Coffee Pod isn't one of them. What we're looking at is a horse that proved capable of reaching the very top on rare occasion, then settled back into the everyday struggle of mid-range racing. York remains its only real stage.
