The Banger Doyle

The horse showed early promise with a debut win at Tipperary on 18 April 2023, but the wins have been few and far between since. Its last victory came on 13 October 2024 at Cork, now nearly two years in the past. The good news is that The Banger Doyle is still active — it raced just a day ago — and it clearly favours normal ground conditions, where it has won 2 of its 16 races, a rate well above its overall average. The recent form reads as a string of near-misses: a second place, followed by two thirds, another third, then a seventh, and most recently an unplaced run. That last sixraces without a win is a drought for any horse, but for one that has never been a prolific winner, it reflects more a horse that is running and trying rather than struggling.

Trained by John Queally, The Banger Doyle has been a fixture of the yard's team, though the trainer has had a quiet season by most measures. The horse's jockey partnership with Darragh O'Keeffe has been less fruitful — they have ridden together eight times without a win — but neither horse nor rider can shoulder blame alone. At this age and level, The Banger Doyle is what it always has been: a horse that gets around, bangs in the occasional win when the conditions suit, and gives its the yard a day out at the races.
