Tazaman

The raw numbers look like this: 4 wins from 21 races, a win rate of roughly 1 in every 5. But what makes that figure worth a second look is where and when those wins have come. On fast, dry ground, Tazaman has won 2 of his 5 races — that's 40%, which is genuinely striking. Most horses take whatever conditions they're given and get on with it; Tazaman is one of those horses that clearly saves something for the right day. When the sun has been out and the ground is firm, he becomes a different proposition entirely.

Distance matters too. At a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs — roughly the equivalent of a middle-distance runner in athletics — Tazaman has won 2 of only 3 races. Two from three at any distance is the kind of record that tells you a trainer has worked something out. Kevin and Lauren Frost, who operate out of Averham Park in Nottinghamshire, have clearly found the sweet spot: get him to Bath or somewhere similar, on dry ground, over that trip, and he becomes very competitive. The yard has sent out 3 winners already this season, so they're not operating on hope alone.

The caveat is that his last 6 races have produced no wins — a run of form reading 2-2-5-3-5-2, which means plenty of minor prizes but nothing to celebrate since his last victory at Bath in June 2025, over a year ago now. His best results have come at Class 6 level, the entry-level tier of British racing, where he has won 4 of 11 races — more than 1 in every 3. That is a healthy record at that level and explains why he keeps getting entered: the team knows exactly what he needs, and when those boxes are ticked, he delivers. He raced just yesterday, which says everything about his durability at 9 years old.
