He hasn't raced in 64 days, so he's coming back from a short freshen-up — which can sometimes be exactly what a horse needs to find his form again.

That's a small but active operation, and the fact that one of those winners was Tarbuck himself suggests the team knows what they're doing with him. The challenge now is finding the race that suits. At the level he typically competes at, he's yet to win from five attempts — 0 from 5, which is a blank record at that grade. His win came at a different level, which hints that dropping into slightly easier company might be where he's most dangerous.

Uttoxeter clearly holds good memories. That's where he broke his duck, and tracks can matter more than people realise — some horses simply travel well to certain venues and run their best there. If Tarbuck turns up at Uttoxeter again with decent ground under his feet and a drop in class, he'd be worth keeping an eye on.
