The horse has found a real home at Fontwell Park, the West Sussex track where it recorded its first win back in October 2022 and has since made it pay. With 2 wins from just 4 races there, Tapley dominates that particular course in a way it doesn't elsewhere — a pattern common enough in racing but always worth noting. Just this week, the horse added another Fontwell victory to cement that record. Away from Sussex, though, results have been tougher: when Tapley steps up to Class 3 races (the better sort of contest), the win rate drops to just 1 win from 14 attempts, which tells you exactly where this horse belongs and how important ground and familiarity are to its chances.

Trainer Gary and Josh Moore, who operate out of Lower Beeding in West Sussex, have sent out 99 winners this season and clearly know their business. Jockey Elizabeth Gale has ridden Tapley 12 times, winning twice — a modest win rate of 17%, but enough to suggest they work well together. That Tapley is still racing at nine years old and still capable of winning speaks to a durable, genuine racehorse: not a star, but the kind of horse that turns up, tries hard, and occasionally rewards those patient enough to back it.
