Tachos

Both wins have come on normal ground conditions, and that pattern is worth paying attention to. In 10 races on standard going, Tachos has won twice — that is a 20% win rate, or 1 in every 5 races. Put the same horse on wet or firm ground and the story changes completely. When conditions suit, this is a noticeably different animal.

The training base matters here. D K Weld's yard at the Curragh in County Kildare is one of the most respected operations in Irish racing, and it has sent out 21 winners already this season. That kind of firepower means horses are placed carefully and run when the team believes they have a genuine chance. Tachos is not a horse being thrown into races at random.

Chris Hayes has done most of the steering, riding Tachos in 12 of its 18 races and winning once together — a win rate of around 8%, or roughly 1 in every 13 rides. That is modest, though it tells you more about the horse's overall level than any failing on the jockey's part. The most recent win came at Leopardstown in June 2025, which is now 14 months ago and the last time Tachos reached the winner's enclosure. The six races since then have brought a fifth, a ninth, a fourteenth, a sixth, and a fifth — consistent enough to suggest the horse is competing at a reasonable level, but without quite managing to get its nose in front.

The key detail is that Tachos raced just one day ago, which makes this an active story rather than a finished one. The horse is clearly still being campaigned seriously, and with normal ground conditions the trigger for its best form, the next time conditions line up just right, it would be unwise to write Tachos off entirely.
