Synchronist

The pattern is unmistakable. When Synchronist races at Class 4 level, which is where it typically competes, it has won just 1 of 8 races. That 12 percent win rate at that standard tells you this is a horse that can beat the field on its day but lacks the edge that separates consistent winners from consistent runners-up. Recent form backs this up perfectly: five fourth-place finishes mixed with a couple of thirds in its last six outings. Synchronist is clearly still competitive enough to threaten a win, but something is missing — the spark that turned those early wins at Southwell and Plumpton into a genuine winning streak.

Sarah Humphrey's West Wratting yard has sent out 8 winners this season, so the trainer clearly knows how to get horses to the winner's enclosure. The question now is whether Synchronist can rediscover whatever worked two years ago, or whether it has simply settled into what it is: a genuine racing animal that is excellent company but rarely gets the photo. At 7 years old and still racing actively, there is time for a resurgence. For now, though, Synchronist remains caught between promise and reality.
