Sudden Flight

Recent form has been unkind. In his last six outings, Sudden Flight has placed twice but mostly found the pace too hot, with a 12th place finisher proving he can have difficult days. He was last in the saddle just a day ago, still actively campaigned by trainer Richard Hughes at Upper Lambourn. Hughes runs a productive yard — 60 winners this season — but Sudden Flight remains a fringe player rather than a centrepiece.

What stands out is his struggle at Class 3, the middle tier where horses with his record typically compete. He has run four races at that level without a win. This matters because it suggests Sudden Flight may have found his ceiling, or at least that the step up in quality has exposed his limitations. On the flip side, his love of normal ground is a genuine edge. If the yard can time his runs to hit a race on his preferred surface, and perhaps drop back to a friendlier class where he has already tasted success, he might rediscover the form that brought those two wins. For now, though, Sudden Flight is a horse in search of momentum.
