Sudbury Hill

The most recent win came at Newton Abbot just last week, which means this horse is in form right now. That followed an earlier success at Newcastle back in July 2025, and between those two wins there has been a string of solid performances — including a fourth, a first, two seconds, and a third across the last six races. The one blip, a twelfth-place finish, looks like an outlier in an otherwise reliable run of results.

Where Sudbury Hill really comes alive is over longer distances, two miles or more. It has won one from three races at that trip — that is roughly one in every three attempts — which is a meaningful number. Many horses are specialists, and the evidence here points to a horse that finds its stride when the race is genuinely demanding. The longer the distance, the more it seems to suit.

The horse is trained by Harry Derham at Upper Lambourn, one of racing's most famous training villages in the Berkshire hills. Derham's yard has sent out 57 winners already this season, which is a serious output and tells you this is an operation that knows how to get horses fit and ready. Sudbury Hill typically competes at Class 4, which sits in the middle tier of British racing — not the biggest stages, but competitive enough that winning there means something. At that level it has won one from four, roughly one in every four races, which is a perfectly respectable return.

With a race just one day ago and a win only last week, Sudbury Hill is clearly in the middle of a good spell. For a three-year-old still finding its feet, the consistency it has shown — rarely out of contention, winning at two different tracks, thriving over a long trip — suggests there could be more wins to come before the season is out.
