Stromness

Trained by Nigel Tinkler at his yard in Langton, North Yorkshire, Stromness is in capable hands. Tinkler's operation has sent out 37 winners already this season, which tells you this is not a struggling yard — they know how to get horses ready to win. The fact that Stromness hasn't managed it yet isn't a reflection on the team around the horse; it simply means the right opportunity hasn't clicked yet. Tinkler will have seen plenty of three-year-olds take time to find their feet, and the stable clearly has the firepower to place horses where they can succeed.

Having raced just yesterday, Stromness is very much a horse in the middle of its story rather than at the end of it. Three-year-olds are still developing physically and mentally throughout the summer, and it is not unusual for one to suddenly put it all together after a run of ordinary efforts. Whether Stromness is that kind of horse remains to be seen — but with a trainer who wins races at a healthy rate, and with the experience of six races now banked, the next run is worth watching with fresh eyes.
