The numbers are honest about where she sits. One win and two places from 14 races amounts to a 7% win rate, or roughly 1 win in every 14 races, and her last six outings have produced finishing positions of 13, 8, 7, 7, 10, and 5 — a horse that is competitive enough to avoid finishing last, but not yet finding a way to win. She has been tried five times at Class 5, the entry-level tier of British racing, and has not won any of those.

That said, the Bath win itself was a proper moment. Jockey Eddie Greatrex, speaking to Sky Sports Racing afterwards, described how she had shown early promise at Kempton, then had a difficult run when she got unbalanced on track. Bath, though, was different — the team had been happy with her at home, Greatrex came to the race expecting something, and she delivered. Those sorts of wins, built on quiet confidence from within the yard, tend to feel more meaningful than ones that happen by accident.

The Kubler yard is not a small operation quietly hoping things work out. Based at Lambourn, one of British racing's most established training centres, Daniel and Claire Kubler have sent out 34 winners already this season — a yard that clearly knows how to get a horse ready to win. Spirited Dancer has also been tested at a higher level, running in a major sales race at Newmarket where she finished well down the field, but the fact she was entered at all suggests the team believe she has more to offer than her recent form shows.

She raced just yesterday, which means this is a horse very much in the middle of a campaign. The question is whether Bath 2024 was a glimpse of what she can be, or the high point of her career so far. For now, the answer is still open.
