Spirit Genie followed that up with another Class 2 win at Haydock Park in September 2024, which means this horse has shown it can compete and win at a solid standard when the conditions are right.

The challenge right now is that those wins feel a little distant. Spirit Genie has gone six races without a victory, and the recent form figures — finishing 12th, 8th, and 7th in its last three completed outings — suggest the horse is finding things tough at the moment. It raced just one day ago, so it is clearly an active and busy campaigner, but the results haven't been coming. At Class 2 level, where Spirit Genie typically runs, only 1 win from 10 races (a 10% win rate) tells its own story — it can win at that level, but it doesn't do so often.

Jennie Candlish, who trains the horse from her yard in Basford, Staffordshire, has had a productive season — 64 winners sent out is a strong return and shows a stable operating with real momentum. George Wood has been in the saddle for 12 of Spirit Genie's races, winning 2 of them, a rate of roughly 1 in 6, which isn't far off the horse's overall average. The first career win came at Roscommon back in August 2022, and Candlish has spoken in the past about Spirit Genie suiting a mile to a mile and a quarter — a horse with a clear profile and a specific job.
