This is the kind of detail that matters to a trainer: Oli Rix, who trains Spell Master at Newmarket, will likely have noted it. The yard is not prolific this season (three winners so far), so every competitive horse is valuable.

What's harder to ignore is the recent form. Spell Master raced six times in its last six outings and managed just two minor places — a third and a sixth — while failing to break into the top two at all. The last win came in October 2025 at Newcastle, now over a year in the past. That's a long drought for a horse that proved capable of winning decent races. Spell Master raced just yesterday and is still actively campaigned, but the window where it looked a genuine threat to win regularly has quietly closed. It remains a horse with enough proven ability to win again — especially back over its favoured distances — but it would need something to click for it to recapture that form from a year ago.
