That's the kind of detail Adrian Nicholls' Sessay yard will be working with, though the trainer's season of eight winners so far suggests the whole operation is ticking along reasonably well.

The pattern of recent placings at least shows Sparkling Pink is competitive enough to threaten on better days. Whether the horse can find another winning opportunity, though, depends on getting the distance right and the class level suitable — because at the higher Class 5 level, there have been no wins from six attempts. For now, it is a waiting game for the yard, and a reminder that one career win, however hard-fought, does not guarantee many more.
