His first win came at Windsor in April 2024, and he followed it up with another at Wetherby in June 2025 — so he has shown he can get the job done when things fall right. That said, he hasn't won in his last six races, and his recent form figures of 3-5-4-6-5-5 paint a picture of a horse knocking on the door without quite managing to push it open. He's been competitive enough to finish third or fourth in a couple of those, which keeps the interest alive.

Most of South Shore's racing has come at the lower end of the racing ladder — Class 6, which is where horses of this level tend to be placed to give them a fair chance. He has won 1 from 10 races at that level, a 10% win rate, which is actually a shade better than his overall record. Regular partner James Sullivan has been in the saddle for 14 of his races together, winning once — the same 1-in-14 ratio that defines the horse's career overall.

Ruth Carr's yard at Stillington in North Yorkshire is in good shape this season, having sent out 63 winners, so South Shore is stabled with a trainer who clearly knows how to get horses to perform. The fact that Carr is still running him and talking him up despite a lengthy winless run suggests she believes there's another win in him. With a race just yesterday, he's very much in the thick of things — and for a horse who has already defied patience once at Wetherby, another moment might be closer than the form book implies.
