But dig a little deeper and the picture becomes clearer. At Class 6 level, the horse has won half its races, 2 wins from 4 starts. Step up in class and the wins dry up. Its last six races have brought no victories at all, though there were places in the second and third runs.

Patrick Morris's yard at Prescott has found a workable formula: keep the horse to the tracks and conditions where it thrives. The trainer pencilled the horse in for a race at Down Royal shortly after that October win, suggesting there is still a plan to find winning opportunities. Sam Ewing, who rides the horse regularly, has not won aboard it yet in eight attempts together, but that is racing — sometimes a jockey and horse simply do not find their rhythm, no matter how solid each performer is in isolation. For Someone's Wish, the next win is likely to come where the last one did: at a familiar track, on ground that suits, and in a race within its reach.
