The career arc here is worth paying attention to. So Darn Hot had its first win at Doncaster in November 2024, then backed it up with back-to-back victories at Newcastle and Lingfield in January and February 2025 — both Class 2 races, which sit right at the top end of the sport in Britain. Winning one of those is an achievement. Winning two in the space of six weeks suggests a horse that had found its form and was making the most of it. Both Newcastle and Lingfield run on all-weather synthetic tracks, which stay consistent regardless of the weather, and So Darn Hot clearly handled them well.

In races at that Class 2 level, the record reads two wins from seven attempts — roughly 1 in every 3.5 races. That might sound modest written as a fraction, but in the context of the best races on the calendar, it is the kind of return that marks out a horse people should be watching. Only about one horse in five wins at that level at anything like that rate.

The trainer is Ed Walker, based in Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, one of British racing's most established training centres. Walker's yard has sent out 76 winners already this season, which puts it among the more productive operations in the country — a busy, successful stable that clearly knows how to prepare a horse properly.

The recent form requires a little context. After that winning run through the winter, the last six results read 13th, 3rd, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 12th going most recent first — which means the form has been a little up and down, though that Windsor win on 2 June was the most recent victory, just over three months ago. So Darn Hot has had a short break since then and is due back soon. A horse with this kind of Class 2 pedigree returning fresh is exactly the kind of story worth following.
