Sky Captain

The Roscommon win remains the highlight so far, and since then Sky Captain has finished second in each of the three races that followed. That kind of consistency — 2-2-2 after the win — tells you this is a horse running at roughly the right level, competitive every time but perhaps just finding one too good on the day. Whether that points to a horse on the cusp of a second win or one that needs things to fall just right is the question worth watching.

The trainer, P Twomey, has had a productive season with 42 winners already, which means this is a yard with plenty of horses in form and the know-how to place them well. A horse that has raced just four times at the age of five is still relatively lightly raced, and that can mean there is more to come — though it is worth noting that Sky Captain raced just yesterday, so the yard will be keeping a close eye on how it comes out of that run before plotting the next move. A horse with a clean record like this is one to follow.
