She's Crafty

Her recent form makes for honest reading: a second place is sandwiched in there, which shows she can get competitive, but the overall picture across her last six races — finishing fifth, eighth, second, fifth, fourth, and seventh — is of a horse that shows up without quite delivering. At Class 6, the lowest rung of British racing, she has had four attempts and drawn a blank every time. That is the level where horses tend to find things easiest, so the fact that she hasn't converted there yet is something her trainer George Margarson will be keen to address.

Margarson operates out of Newmarket, one of the most famous training centres in the world, and his yard has sent out 11 winners already this season — so he clearly knows how to get horses winning. She's Crafty just hasn't been one of them yet. She raced as recently as yesterday, which tells you she is fit, healthy, and actively being campaigned. Sometimes a horse simply needs everything to click into place on the right day — the right race, the right ground, the right run of luck. Whether She's Crafty has that day ahead of her remains to be seen, but at three years old, she is still young enough that patience hasn't entirely run out.
