The distance range of 1m3f to 1m4f also suits it: two wins from eight races in that band suggests Shadow Dance performs best when given a longer trip with decent ground beneath its feet. When those conditions line up, the horse becomes competitive. Without them, the record is far thinner.

The Class 2 win at York last summer shows the horse can beat top-class competition on its day, but the subsequent dry spell hints that opportunities have either dried up or Shadow Dance simply hasn't been sharp enough to seize them.
