Away from those ideal conditions, particularly when the ground turns very wet or gets firm and fast, Samui's record drops away significantly. It's a useful insight for anyone following the horse: watch the forecast before you pay too much attention.

The shape of its recent form suggests a horse still capable of winning but perhaps in a slight decline. In its last six races, Samui has had one win — at Punchestown just this week, on 13 October 2026 — along with two top-3 finishes and three runs outside the top-3 finishes. What's telling is that when Samui does win, it's not in the biggest races: it has never won at Class 1 level, despite six attempts, and seems firmly settled as a performer at the lower rungs of top-race company. That's not a criticism — plenty of horses have long, useful careers at exactly this level — but it's the ceiling. Having raced just a day ago and still active in the yard's rotation, Samui will likely keep doing exactly what it does: showing up regularly, winning often enough to justify its feed bill, and saving its best efforts for days when the ground suits.
