Trainers and owners spend a lot of time chasing the right ground for a horse, and for Sam's Xpress the message could not be clearer: keep it on good ground and it becomes a genuinely different proposition.

That is a 50% win rate, meaning it has won half its races at that level. That is an extraordinary return and suggests that when the competition is pitched correctly, this horse is as good as anything it faces.

The partnership with jockey Dylan Hogan deserves a mention. In 14 races together, Hogan has guided Sam's Xpress to 4 wins — a win rate of 29%, or nearly 1 in every 3 rides. That is a meaningful number and the kind of combination that the Birkett yard will want to keep intact when conditions are right.

The current form is a little quieter: no wins in the last 6 races, with recent finishes of 5th, 9th, 6th, 6th, 3rd and 3rd. The last victory came at Wolverhampton in December 2025, now six months ago. But Sam's Xpress raced just yesterday and is very much in training. With the Birkett yard having sent out 15 winners already this season, the operation is clearly in good health — and if the ground comes up right and the class is pitched correctly, there is every reason to think this horse can add to its tally.
