Winning half your races at anything is exceptional, and it tells you that when conditions suit this horse, it can be devastating. The overall career record of 6 wins and 13 places from 37 races (a 16% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 6 races) is more modest, which simply reflects how often it competes outside those ideal conditions.

Martin Dunne trains the horse out of Newmarket, the heartland of British flat racing, and his yard has hit 20 winners already this season — a solid, productive operation. The most regular jockey in the saddle has been William Carson, but that partnership has yet to click: zero wins from eight races together. That is a curious stat, given how capable Sam's Hope has shown itself to be in the right circumstances.

The current run of form — no win in the last six races, with a second place the only bright spot — does suggest the horse is in a quieter spell. Its last win came at Southwell in January 2026, five months ago. The horse raced just yesterday, so it is clearly being kept busy. Whether the yard is searching for the right opportunity, or waiting for another crack at Southwell over a short trip, is the interesting question. Put those two things together — that track, that distance — and Sam's Hope has shown it can be a different animal entirely.
