That said, three races is a very small sample. Many horses take time to find their feet, and at three years old Rubistar is still relatively early in its career. What matters now is whether the next run shows any sign of improvement — a step forward in finishing position, or simply a more competitive effort closer to the leaders.

The trainer, Jack Jones, operates out of Newmarket in Suffolk — one of the most famous racing towns in the world, home to some of the sport's biggest yards. Jones has had a productive season, sending out 33 winners, which suggests a capable and well-run operation. Rubistar may not have contributed to that tally yet, but being trained by someone clearly in decent form is no small thing. Whether the yard can find a race that suits this horse well enough to unlock some improvement is the question worth watching.
