The horse shows real promise in the right circumstances. When running in Class 4 races—the level below top-tier competition—he wins roughly one in every four times (2 wins from 8 races), a significant jump from his overall win rate. His first win came at Kempton Park in February 2024, and he has shown he can handle a range of conditions and distances. Trainer Adrian Keatley, based at Ryedale in North Yorkshire, believes Roberto Caro is ready to break his long drought. The trainer notes that the horse handles soft or wet ground well, stays the distance over six furlongs when the pace is strong, and can manage sharp seven-furlong races without complaint. Keatley also flagged a recent race at York where Roberto Caro ran home hard but was bothered by ground conditions he disliked, suggesting the unlucky run rather than a decline in ability.

The caveat is that Roberto Caro is not the easiest horse to manage. Keatley describes him as a nervous type who is hard on himself at home, yet paradoxically he can be genuinely competitive when conditions suit him and he settles. Jockey Oisin McSweeney, his most frequent partner, has ridden him eleven times for just one win, which suggests the partnership, while regular, has not yet clicked consistently. With the horse only raced two days ago, he is clearly still active and in contention for winter and early-season opportunities. If Keatley can thread the needle—find races with the right ground, distance, and class level—Roberto Caro looks capable of delivering a return to the winner's circle before the year ends.
