The headline achievements came back-to-back in the winter of 2024-25, when Roaring Legend won two Class 2 races — among the better races in British racing — at Newcastle in January and then at Lingfield Park in February 2025. Landing one top-level all-weather race takes ability; landing two in the space of six weeks suggests a horse operating at the top of its game. The problem is that was 13 months ago, and the six races since have produced nothing better than a second place. The form line reads 6-–-2-3-10-4, which shows the horse is still running respectably in places, but that winner's enclosure feeling has gone quiet.
The bulk of Roaring Legend's career has been spent in Class 4 company — the solid, workmanlike middle tier of British racing — and this is where the horse has thrived most reliably, winning 4 of 13 races at that level, or roughly 1 in every 3. That is an excellent ratio and suggests the horse is well-suited to that grade. The two Class 2 victories stand out as genuine peaks, moments when everything clicked on the big all-weather stages.
In the saddle, Daniel Muscutt has been the most regular partner, riding Roaring Legend in 8 races and winning 2 of them — a win rate of 25%, or 1 in every 4 rides together, which is a solid return. The horse is trained by Olly Murphy at Wilmcote in Warwickshire, and Murphy's yard has been in terrific form this season, sending out 138 winners — the kind of firepower that tells you there is a serious operation behind this horse.
Having raced as recently as yesterday, Roaring Legend is clearly fit and active. The question everyone around the yard will be asking is whether those back-to-back Class 2 wins were a glimpse of what this horse can do when the stars align — or whether they represented a genuine step up that is now proving hard to repeat.
