The implication is that track conditions or the specific races it is running in now may not suit it, or the horse itself may have lost a yard of pace.

The relationship between Roadlesstravelled and its jockey Jonjo O'Neill Jr is worth noting. They have won 3 of their 5 races together — a 60 percent win rate — which is outstanding. When O'Neill is in the saddle, this horse performs. The trainer, Jonjo & A.J. O'Neill, runs a powerful Cheltenham yard that sent out 51 winners this season, so the infrastructure is clearly excellent. Yet even a top yard cannot magic wins out of a horse that is not quite getting there. At seven years old, Roadlesstravelled is in its prime, and it clearly has the ability to win at the very top level. Whether it can rediscover that form remains the question.
