Righthere Rightnow

That sole win came at Newmarket, which also happens to be home for this horse — Richard Spencer's yard is based right there in the Suffolk town. Spencer has been in decent form this season, sending out 30 winners, so the operation is clearly capable. The frustration with Righthere Rightnow is that it simply hasn't been able to add to that August 2024 success. It's been 23 months since that day, and recent form makes for difficult reading: in its last six races, the best it has managed is a third place, with a string of mid-field or worse finishes either side of it.

The partnership with jockey Saffie Osborne hasn't clicked yet either. They've ridden together five times without a win between them, and the horse's form hasn't given her much to work with. At the distances where it shows its best numbers — seven furlongs to a mile — it has won 1 from 6 races, a win rate of 17%, which is the closest thing to a bright spot in the stats. That's roughly 1 win from every 6 races at those trips, which is modest but at least suggests there's a shape to what suits it.

The step up to Class 2 — some of the better races in Britain — has produced nothing from three attempts, which isn't a surprise given the overall record but does suggest the ceiling may be limited. Raced just yesterday and currently active, there's no sign of the team putting it away. For now, Righthere Rightnow is a horse that once showed enough to win at a good track, but has spent the best part of two years trying, and failing, to do it again.
