Regent's Stroll

His partnership with jockey Harry Cobden has been central to that record. The two have raced together 11 times, winning 5 of them — a win rate of 45%, or almost 1 in every 2 races. That kind of chemistry between a horse and rider matters enormously over jumps, where trust and communication can be the difference between a clean round and a catastrophic mistake. Both seem to bring out the best in each other.

Trainer Paul Nicholls, who runs one of the most powerful yards in Britain from his base in Ditcheat, Somerset — 92 winners this season alone — has spoken about Regent's Stroll in notably glowing terms. He's described him as one of his better chances of the week and believes they've "only scratched the surface" of what the horse can do over fences. That's a significant statement from a trainer of his stature. An early mistake — removing a hood at Newbury that had been keeping the horse settled — briefly exposed his tendency to run too freely, but the lessons have been learned. At Wincanton in December 2025, the jumping was described as fantastic, the horse relaxed, and Nicholls was clearly excited about what lay ahead.

The one honest complication is at the very top level. In four races at Class 1 — the highest tier — Regent's Stroll has yet to win. But Nicholls is pointing him squarely at a three-mile test at Aintree, a race his stablemate Caldwell Potter won previously, and the belief is that the longer trip will suit him perfectly. He's been beaten at Cheltenham for a "bit of toe" on the downhill section — a flat-track speed issue, not a stamina one — and the trainer thinks once he gets relaxed over three miles, there's a lot more to come. At a rating of 145 and still maturing, Regent's Stroll feels like a horse right on the cusp of something big.
