The two-year-old is bred to be sharp. The sire, Blue Point, was one of the fastest horses in Europe during his racing career, winning at the highest level in Britain, and he has already shown he can pass that speed on to his offspring. The dam's side, through Dalakhani, brings a classier, more measured influence — the kind of bloodline that can add stamina and composure to raw pace. Whether that combination produces a sprinter or something with a bit more range is one of the things this debut will start to answer.
The trainer is William Haggas, whose Newmarket yard has sent out 170 winners this season alone. To put that in perspective, that isn't a yard that gets lucky occasionally — that is a machine. Haggas has a long record of handling well-bred two-year-olds carefully and placing them to win, so the fact that Regalism is making a first appearance tells you the team believes the horse is ready. Debuts from this yard are always worth watching, even when the horse is unknown quantity. The preparation, at least, will have been thorough.
