Real Dream

The horse has found his sweet spot at distances between one mile three furlongs and one mile four furlongs, where he wins roughly 1 in every 4 races (2 wins from 8). That kind of form at a specific distance often means a yard knows exactly when to run him, and when they do, he usually turns up. His last success came at Ascot on 15 July 2023, now almost three years ago — a long drought for any racehorse, and one that suggests age or shifting ground beneath his feet has taken its toll. His recent form has been lean: four runs back, fourth from 21 runners; then three seventh-place finishes and a seventh to open the sequence. That fourth placing was a minor bright spot, but he has not won in his last six outings.

What is slightly puzzling is his record in Class 2 races, where he has never won despite being entered eight times. These are among the top races in the country, and while not every horse is built for that level, it does suggest Real Dream's wins have come against more modest competition. That said, trainer Ian Williams has sent out 96 winners this season from Portway, so the yard clearly knows its trade. Real Dream is still active — his last race was just a day ago — which means the team still sees something worth racing for, even if winning looks unlikely at seven years old.
