Real Dream

When Real Dream does find its best, it tends to find it over a mile and three or a mile and four furlongs. At those distances, it has won 2 of 7 races — nearly 1 in 3 — which is a genuinely strong record and tells you the horse has a real affinity for that stamina-testing trip. The issue is that the races Real Dream typically contests are a different matter. It has been running almost exclusively in Class 2 company — some of the better races in Britain outside the very top tier — and there it has gone 0 from 8. Not a single win. That is not a failure of talent so much as a reflection of how competitive that level is; finishing placed repeatedly in those fields is nothing to be embarrassed about, but it does mean winning feels like a stretch.

The training operation behind Real Dream gives genuine cause for optimism. Ian Williams, based at Alvechurch in Worcestershire, has sent out 92 winners already this season — that is a yard operating at serious volume and in strong form. Horses from this stable are not there to make up the numbers. Real Dream opened its career account at Doncaster in June 2022 and followed it up with that Ascot win in the summer of 2023, so there is a blueprint for success. Having raced just three days ago, it is clearly being kept busy, and the team are not giving up on finding another opportunity. The question is whether the right race — at the right distance, on the right day — comes along to remind everyone what this horse looked like at its best.
