The key is distance. Over a mile and one to a mile and two furlongs, Rating has won 2 of 12 races — that's 17%, or nearly 1 in every 6. That's a dramatically different horse to the one that turns up and makes up the numbers elsewhere. It suggests Rating needs a specific set of circumstances to produce its best, and when those circumstances arrive, it genuinely delivers. Both career wins have come at that trip: the first at Wolverhampton in December 2025, and then again at Bath on 26 May 2026, just seven weeks ago, which tells you this horse is very much in the mix right now rather than fading into retirement.

The recent form backs that up. Reading those last six runs from most recent backwards — 3rd, 5th, 5th, 1st, 3rd, 2nd — you see a horse that is almost always in the conversation at the finish. Four placings around a win is the kind of form that means the yard are rarely going home empty-handed, even if the wins themselves are hard to come by.

One puzzle worth noting: Rating has raced ten times at Class 5 level — essentially the entry-level tier of British flat racing — and hasn't won once. Yet its two victories have come against presumably tougher fields. That's the sort of quirk that frustrates people who bet on horses but delights anyone who simply watches them. Sometimes a horse performs to its own logic rather than the obvious script.

Jockey Sean Levey has partnered Rating six times without a win between them, though that says as much about the horse's overall win rate as anything else. Trainer Grace Harris, based in Shirenewton in Gwent, has had 31 winners this season — a productive yard. With Rating last racing just one day ago and very much still active, whatever comes next will be worth watching.
