The real story here is Newcastle. Raatea first broke through at this track on 25 June 2022, and has won twice there since, including a Class 2 victory on 14 October 2025 just 10 months ago. Class 2 races are top-tier competition in British racing, and winning one of them at Newcastle — where the track is all-weather and the field is always tough — tells you Raatea belongs in better company than its overall record suggests. In fact, when racing at Class 2 level, the horse wins at 7 percent (1 win from 15 races), which is respectable for that grade.
Recent form has been patchy. The horse's last six outings show mostly mid-field finishes: fourth, 13th, fifth, third, second, and tenth. That 13th is a stumble, and the lack of a win in half a year is starting to add up. Trainer Julie Camacho's yard at Norton in North Yorkshire has had a successful season overall with 46 winners, but Raatea has not found the form that earned it that Class 2 win. With racing yesterday, the old horse is still getting plenty of chances to prove it can recapture that touch. Whether it can is another question, but Newcastle has always been its happy hunting ground.
