What makes Queen Roslyn interesting is not what she does everywhere, but what she does somewhere. At Newcastle, she wins. Two wins from four races there gives her a 50 per cent success rate at that track, which is the kind of record that makes a regular punter sit up and pay attention. Pair that with her preference for normal ground—2 wins from 5 races, another 40 per cent rate—and you start to see a pattern: put her at Newcastle on a standard racing surface and things click. She also thrives in Class 6 races, the lower tier of the sport, where she has won 3 of her 5 starts there. Bump her up in company and the wins dry up. When jockey Sean Quinlan rides her, she wins two from five—40 per cent—suggesting a real partnership there.

Brian Ellison's yard in Norton has had a strong season with 43 winners, so there is support and plenty of race planning behind her. But six months without a win, even for a horse at her level, is a long drought. The question now is whether she finds that Newcastle magic again soon, or whether the well has run dry. Either way, she has already done what most horses never manage: find a place where she genuinely excels.
