Project Geofin

What makes him worth watching is the gap between what he can do and what he's been doing lately. With jockey P J McDonald in the saddle, Project Geofin is a different proposition — they've combined for three wins from ten races together, a 30% win rate that's nearly double his career average. Trainer Geoff Oldroyd's yard at Pocklington has been firing this season with 13 winners, so the stable is in good form. On normal ground conditions, Project Geofin has won two of seven races (29%), suggesting he's a horse that needs decent footing to show his best. He also seems to peak at distances between a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half, where he's won one from three.

Newcastle is his track. He's won twice from seven races there, which isn't spectacular but it's his most productive course. That familiarity might matter when he next runs.

The real concern is his complete inability to win in Class 4 races — the bread-and-butter level where he's been competing most. Zero wins from ten starts at that grade is a red flag. Either the quality gap is too steep, or something isn't clicking when the pressure is on. At five years old, Project Geofin is still capable of winning races, but he needs the right combination of conditions, distance, company, and ideally McDonald back in the saddle. Without that, he's treading water.
