Class 2 races sit near the very top of British racing, which means Prince Of India has already proved he can mix it with serious competition. Horses that win at Ascot don't just wander in off the street; they earn it. His first win, back in March at Wolverhampton, now reads like a launchpad for what briefly looked like a career trajectory heading firmly upward.

One thing worth noting is how much he seems to love fast, dry ground — he's won three of his six races on those conditions, a remarkable 50% win rate that dwarfs his overall figures. When the sun has been out and the ground is firm, this horse turns into a different animal. That might partly explain why he's struggled lately; British summer weather is rarely predictable, and conditions don't always cooperate.

He's trained by Marco Botti at a busy Newmarket yard that has sent out 45 winners this season alone — a real indication of a stable in form.
