Poncho

The wider picture is less spectacular. At Class 4 level—the bread-and-butter competitive tier where Poncho typically races—he has won 3 of 17 attempts, a rate of roughly 1 in 6. His last win came on 3 November 2025 at Plumpton, but that was almost a year ago, and his recent form has been patchy. In his last six races he has finished outside the placings four times, though he did place twice and managed a win in that span. Ridden most often by Niall Houlihan—they have run together six times—the partnership has yet to break through for a victory, which suggests Poncho may perform better for other riders or that the pairing simply hasn't clicked.

Gary and Josh Moore's Lower Beeding yard has been in strong form this season, sending out 99 winners, so Poncho has competent training behind him. At eight years old and still active—he raced just a day ago—he remains useful rather than exceptional, a horse with genuine affinity for one particular track and the kind of middling record that keeps him competitive at a certain level but unlikely to progress much further.
