The problem is that soft, wet conditions are unpredictable, and when the ground dries out, Pillar Of Hope tends to struggle. It also shows clear preferences for distances between 1m3f and 1m4f, winning three times from 14 races at those trips—not extraordinary, but a pattern. At Class 4 level races, it has a 38 per cent win rate, winning three from eight, which suggests it performs better against moderate opposition than against stronger fields.

There is also a Redcar connection. The horse won there twice from three races—a genuine course specialist record—with one of those wins coming back in September 2022, its first career victory. That suggests the track suits its running style. Trainer P Sweeney's yard at Letterkenny has been sending out winners this season, and jockey Patrick McGettigan has ridden the horse to two wins from ten rides together, a 20 per cent win rate that is better than the horse's overall form. Recent races have been unkind—no wins in the last six outings, with mostly mid-field finishes—but the horse raced just yesterday, so it remains an active and willing competitor. For a horse of modest ability, Pillar Of Hope has learned to win under the right circumstances.
