His first arrived at Redcar in April 2022, and by August of that year he had taken a Class 2 at York — one of the most prestigious tracks in the country. Then came the headline act: a Class 1 win at Newbury in July 2024. Most horses spend their entire careers chasing that level without ever cracking it. Phantom Flight did it, and it prompted Scott to target him at the Bahrain International, one of the most significant international races on the calendar. After the Newbury win, Scott noted that the horse had arrived in superb condition and immediately set about planning a route toward Bahrain, with the Ebor at York among the stepping stones under consideration. The trainer was clear: this horse had just made himself eligible for the biggest stages.

That consistency suggests a genuine understanding between horse and rider. Scott, for his part, described Phantom Flight early in his career as sensible, relaxed, and straightforward to ride — a horse that hits the line strongly and has always suggested there was more to come over a longer trip.

The recent picture is more mixed. His last six results read 6-1-7-3-6-5, with that solitary win coming at Dundalk in September 2025. He is yet to run today, having raced just yesterday, which means he is as fit and active as a racehorse can be. Overall at Class 1 level he has won just 1 from 13 races — roughly 1 in 13 — which tells you how brutally hard it is to win at the top. But he has already done it once. With a trainer who has sent out 52 winners this season alone, and a horse clearly capable of big days, there is every reason to keep watching.
