What they do not capture is a horse that has placed — finished in the frame, close enough to smell the prize — on 18 occasions. Persuasion has spent a long career being competitive. One of those wins was a Class 2 race at Thirsk in September 2023, which means he has beaten decent horses in one of the better categories of racing in Britain.

At nine years old, with Musselburgh on his CV and Rodriguez in the saddle, Persuasion remains a horse worth watching.
