What's particularly striking about Perfect Strike's recent form is the trajectory. After finishing fifth on his most recent outing just a day ago, he bounced back from a seventh-place finish before that with a second-place finish sandwiched in between. At this tender age, that kind of inconsistency is not unusual — young horses are still learning the basics of racing, finding their feet, and working out what they're doing in a competitive environment. The win at Sandown suggests there's real ability in there, though. He's trained by William Haggas at Newmarket, a yard that has already sent out 170 winners this season, so he's in the hands of someone who knows how to develop raw talent. With a debut winner under his belt and the yard who have the experience to guide him, Perfect Strike has the foundation to progress further — assuming the promise shown at Sandown proves to be the start of something rather than a flash in the pan.
