Pay Attention

That single win came at Nottingham on the 1st of June 2025, and it remains the sole moment of triumph in what has otherwise been a career spent in the supporting cast. Thirteen months have now passed since that day, and the last six races have brought finishes of 3rd, 8th, 9th, 2nd, 6th, and 5th — plenty of promise on paper, but the winner's enclosure has stayed out of reach. The second place in that sequence is the cruelest number: close enough to make you think the breakthrough is coming, but not close enough to matter.

The distance sweet spot appears to be somewhere between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two furlongs. Pay Attention has run eight times at those trips and won once — that's 1 from 8, or roughly 1 in every 8 races, which is at least better than the overall record suggests. It is a narrow window of optimism, but it is there.

Trainer Faye Bramley operates out of Lambourn, one of British racing's great training villages, and her yard has hit the ground running this season with 17 winners already sent out. That is a yard in decent form, which makes Pay Attention's own drought slightly harder to explain. The horse typically competes at Class 5, which is towards the lower end of the racing ladder — and yet in seven attempts at that level, it is yet to win a single one. That is the puzzling contradiction at the heart of this horse: it places enough to suggest ability, but cannot quite put it all together when the moment comes.

Pay Attention raced just yesterday and is very much still active. The next run might be the one that changes the story — or it might add another near-miss to the tally. Either way, this is a horse you watch with one eye on the possibility.
