The recent form makes for slightly mixed reading. Back-to-back third-place finishes a few runs ago hinted that a win might be coming, but the last three races have brought a sixth, a fifth, and a fourth — frustratingly close in one sense, yet drifting in the wrong direction overall. At Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, Parole Officer has gone winless from five attempts at that level. For a horse that hasn't yet won anywhere, that's the grade where it really needs to make something happen.
Based in Hawick in the Scottish Borders, Parole Officer is trained by Ewan Whillans, a yard that has been in decent form this season with 28 winners already on the board. That kind of output shows this is a functioning, competitive operation — so the tools are there. Parole Officer raced just yesterday, meaning it is very much in active training and in the middle of its campaign. Whether the yard — the trainer and team — push for another quick run or give it a short break will be worth watching. The horse is young, and three-year-olds often need time and mileage before things click. Some horses simply take longer than others to work it all out. Parole Officer hasn't found the answer yet, but at this stage of a career, that's far from unusual.
