The career numbers are modest on the surface — one win from eight races, which works out at roughly 1 in every 8 — but the context softens that picture considerably. He has placed five times in total, meaning he has been competitive far more often than his win tally suggests. His one victory came at Epsom Downs in August 2024, and while that is now 21 months ago, the races since have not been forgiving. He has been running consistently at Class 2 level — some of the better races in Britain — and picking up zero wins from five attempts there. That is simply a tough environment, and finishing second more than once in it is not nothing.
The most telling detail comes from the trainer himself. Parole d'Oro finished second at Thirsk behind a horse called Teroomm, who then went on to win a big race at Haydock. That result dragged Parole d'Oro's official rating upward on what is known as collateral form — essentially, if you nearly beat a horse who turns out to be very good, the handicapper takes notice. His mark has nudged up to 92 as a result, which matters greatly for getting into a competitive Royal Ascot race on the right terms. He has also already run at Ascot before and, according to Bell, ran very well there.
He returns now after roughly six months off the track — a deliberate pause, not a setback — and Bell's yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 47 winners. The plan has been building since the day they bought him. If it comes together at Ascot, it will have been a long time in the making.
