What makes Panelli worth watching is the partnership with Billy Loughnane. In five races together, Loughnane has steered the horse to victory once — a 20 per cent win rate that stands out sharply against Panelli's overall record of 1 in 16. That single win, at Lingfield Park, came with Loughnane in the saddle, suggesting the jockey and horse have found a genuine spark together. Trainer Mike Sowersby, based at Little Barugh in North Yorkshire, has had a productive season with eight winners sent out from the yard, though Panelli has not yet been part of that success tally this year.

The horse performs best over middle distances of one mile and one furlong to one mile and two furlongs, winning once from eight races at those trips — a 12 per cent return that hints at where its strengths lie. However, when stepped up to Class 4 company, the highest level at which Panelli regularly competes, it has won none from six attempts. The gaps between defeats are shortening, and eleven months without another victory is a long drought for a horse still only four years old. Panelli remains active and racing, but momentum is not on its side.
