Our Cody

The form sheet tells the story of a horse treading water. In her last six races she has run 10-12-4-3-9-2, which includes a couple of minor placings but mostly finishes well down the field. What makes this harder is that Our Cody has been tried at the top level — the sort of Class 1 races that separate serious contenders from the rest — and has won none of her four attempts at that grade. She is currently active and raced as recently as yesterday, suggesting the team is still hunting for the right opportunity.

Richard Hughes, who trains Our Cody at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has had an excellent season with 60 winners to his name, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses ready to win. Our Cody's single success suggests she is capable of winning races, but finding the right spot has become the challenge. At a win rate of roughly one in every 13 races, she is a horse who will need to improve her consistency if she is to climb back onto the winner's list.
