The most recent win came at Southwell in November 2025, about eight months ago, and before that the first career victory was at Redcar back in October 2022. That gap between wins tells you this is a horse that makes you wait. The last six runs have returned a string of mid-pack finishes — a second place the brightest moment in an otherwise quiet sequence — and most recently a tenth-place finish just yesterday, keeping the horse busy and in the mix even if the results haven't sparkled.

What makes the current situation interesting is the backstory. Orbital Chime was picked up from an online sale in February after the previous yard effectively listed the horse as a bad debt — meaning the bills had piled up and the horse needed a new home. It's not a glamorous beginning to a new chapter, but the current trainer saw something worth pursuing. It took a handful of races to get a proper read on the horse, which is understandable when you're starting fresh with an animal you've only just met. The trainer is now genuinely encouraged, pointing to a recent run at Ayr in a competitive race as evidence that Orbital Chime is building toward something.

The regular partnership with jockey P J McDonald is worth noting. The two have shared 10 races together, producing that 1 win — a 10% win rate, or roughly 1 win in every 10 rides, which is actually a better return than the horse's overall career average. That familiarity matters. Getting to know a horse's quirks and preferences takes time, and having a jockey who already has a feel for the animal is a small but real advantage.

The horse typically competes at Class 4 level — solid, competitive mid-tier racing — and has yet to win at that grade from 13 attempts. Cracking that particular nut would represent a genuine step forward. The trainer seems to think it's coming. Whether Orbital Chime agrees is the question.
